The Cash Machine Is Blue And Green

The new coloured US greenback has finally been unveiled. It’s not nearly as gaudy as I’d hoped. After years of Americans mocking our currency, I was hoping it would be payback. Oh well.

Broken Social Scene’s next release will be tracks from the You Forgot It In People sessions that didn’t make the album. Details here.

Bad news – That Richard Thompson show at Hugh’s Room is sold out. Good news – he’s on the bill for the Toronto Star Bluesfest July 27, with a full band. And it’s cheaper than the intimate solo acoustic show. I would much rather see RT plugged in with the full band, so for once my sloth has worked out in my favour. Go figure.

A Collection of Accounts

An in-depth “this is your life” interview with Luna’s Britta Phillips can be found here.

Superchunk release their third b-sides and rarities comp – this one a double disc – on August 19th. Check out the track list and cover art for Cup Of Sand on the Superchunk website. You have to love a band that runs it’s own label (and a fantastic one at that). They want to release something? Whoop – there it is.

I discovered to my horror last night that the Lake Holiday website wasn’t working in IE for Windows for probably a couple weeks now. Uh… that’s great. Wish someone had told me. But there is some news from the counseller’s cabin on the shores of Lake Holiday… August 3rd – pencil (not pen) it in.

Question – renters insurance in Ontario. Anyone have the skinny? Advice? Suggestions? The fact that I have no coverage on all my worldly goods is troubling to me.

One Too Many Blows to the Head

The Dismemberment Plan’s final Toronto show takes place at the Tequila Lounge on July 19, with support acts Engine Down and Dame Fate. Have fun at James Taylor, Kyle!

It damn well better keep raining. I took the subway instead of biking today in expectation of a deluge.

Pumpkin has returned to the wilds of Cleveland. My temporary puppy is gone :(

There There

See the new Radiohead video for “There There” here. Definitely more guitars than the last two albums. Nutty visuals. I am getting excited about the new record (to this point I’d heard none of it).

Today was all about food. Two meals, two all-you-can-eat buffets – one all Jewish food, the other Chinese. I am so full.

The High Party

There is a dog in the house! My cousin Annie is visiting from Cleveland, and she brought her dog, Pumpkin. Pumpkin is a nice puppy – not the smartest thing in the world, but very friendly and playful. I took her for a walk in Queen’s Park this afternoon and she nearly had a fit trying to chase the dozens of squirrels around the park. Wore me right out, at least.

Bought Ted Leo & The Pharmacists’ Hearts Of Oak as a birthday present to me. Yeah, that’s the rationale I used for the bike too, but since I haven’t gotten any gifts from anyone else, I feel justified in spoiling myself a little.

So Scott got married yesterday, and my day was spent traipsing around Woodbridge with the folks from work. The ceremony was short and sweet – not even ten minutes long! Way to smash the record for shortest wedding ever. Fantastic. Of course, this meant that we had four hours or so to kill before the reception… Time spent walking around Kleinburg (little little town!), sitting around a restaurant serving pre-reception refreshments and chatting with the limo driver, wandering around Woodbine Centre mall and capped off with my first game ever of Dance Dance Revolution, nattily attaired in my suit. That game is hard! And then the reception, which was quite tasty if not as voluminous in quantity as I’d been led to expect. Mark got pretty drunk and was quite the dancing machine – probably all primed from Dance Dance Revolution… It was a good time had by all. And I have two more weddings in the next six weeks. I better get my suit dry cleaned.
