She’s A Little Bit Country, He’s A Little Bit Rock’N’Roll

Once again, today’s entry is really for yesterday. Quite an evening of entertainment. I’m tired, so will keep it brief.

Went to see Signs. M. Night Shyamalan is really an excellent director, none better today at suspense. His fondness for the supernatural/ extraordinary for his subject matter only endears him to me more. Signs was good. The final act, I dunno about, was a bit of a let-down, but didn’t diminish what the film had accomplished to that point.

Nu-Music nite at the Shoe – saw Allison Moorer tonight and Marah. To get the shallow bit out of the way, I’ll just say Allison Moorer is stunning (she ain’t just well lit) and leave it at that… and that Southern accent. Meow. Anyway, it was a good show – she did country music they way country would sound if anyone in Nashville had any soul anymore… and it was refreshing to hear real professional musicians for a change. And I got a set list though I wasn’t really trying to… keyboardist say me checking out the backline and handed it to me. Thanks man, wanna pass me that Deluxe Reverb while you’re at it?

Marah simply rocked. Only traces of their alt.country roots came through, as whatever they were before, now they’re simply RAWK. In a good way, though. Terrific stage show, energy was at 10 and then some. Note to self – learn to jump around on stage more.

Also snagged a copy of the Soft Boys’ Underwater Moonlight – the double-disc Matador edition. Yippee.
