Kicking Television
Just for kicks, Sun Media has ranked their 25 best TV shows ever as well as their 25 worst TV shows ever. I think it’s a little early to call Curb Your Enthusiasm one of the best ever, let alone rank it ahead of Cheers, and I wonder is someone really objectively tried to compare Twin Peaks with Sesame Street… “Yeah, okay we’ve got Oscar the Grouch on one hand, but he’s got nothing on the dancing backwards-talking midget”.
And what a task it must have been to come up with the worst list, considering that such a high percentage of new shows every season are suck dreck. They’d almost need two lists – worst shows ever that lasted more than a half-dozen episodes and those that didn’t. Manimal! Har har. Anyone else remember Automan? Man, TV Tome has more info on crap television than shoud ever be compiled in one place. And finally, while I’m disappointed that the genius of Sledge Hammer! wasn’t recognized for being genius, I suppose I should be thankful that it didn’t make the naughty list, either. I loved that show, I really did. Though I can’t explain why. “Trust me, I know what I’m doing”. Gold, pure gold. Whither David Rasche?
I assume everyone’s heard about the story of 80s band The Alarm charting with a new single while pretending to be a new, young band called the Poppyfields. Alarm-ist Mike Peters says the stunt was intended to prove that “there’s so much music that gets played based on image”. Well, uh, yeah. Did anyone ever say differently? While clever, isn’t that kind of like jumping into a lake to prove that it’s wet? We already knew that.

Man, I loved Sledgehammer, too! Our whole family would sit down to watch it. I want to say that I saw an episode a few years ago and realized that it was horrible.

Sledge Hammer was a favorite of mine, as well. Unfortunately, my parents hated it and, since they were in charge of the remote, I only ever got to see it occasionally.

I’m a little confused as to how Small Wonder got on the 25 worst shows, it was creepy, but I loved it!
And Freaks and Geeks got left off the best! http://…/
Ah well, I found out last night, lo and behold Frank can dance!! We were at Stolen Wine Social http://…/ and though those girls have a few things to learn about getting people on the dance floor (too many obscure tracks and not enough "indie hits" — do those even exist?) I was pleasantly suprised to see that Frank can shake it!

Small Wonder is the absolute worst show ever….. nasty awful bad mojo tv
I only ever saw Automan on the French CBC back in the early 90’s and I was very confused.
Sledge Hammer was a favorite when I was young, but I remember nada about it. But people assure me it was quite awesome. Let’s hope for that DVD.

Small Wonder:
A few years ago I was at one of those college party things and was talking to a girl who insisted that Billy Corgan played the kid (I think his name was Jamie). I was totally polite about it. I said, "Well, yeah, he looked like him. It wasn’t actually him, though." She wouldn’t believe me and said that she remembered Billy Corgan’s name in the credits for the show. Eventually, I just let it go with an, "oh, really."

What are you missing? The very pinnacle of western civilization. A maverick, play-by-his-own-rules cop with a really big gun. Wholly original and brilliantly executed.
Of course, this is all through the lens of an eleven-year old. It could well have been the worst dreck ever made. Only the DVDs know for sure.

Ha! I heard that Billy Corgan urban legend too. That and the silly rumour that the guy who played the eldest son on Mr. Belvedere was Marilyn Manson.
If Sledgehammer was dreck it was damn good dreck.
