New Low

Some interesting discourse going on about Shania Twain. Yeah, that one. I scarcely pay any attention to her, but reading this piece from the current issue of Rolling Stone, coupled with this piece, which considers both the RS article and her performance and the Super Bowl… well, I’ve always found her a little frightening but now I’m thinking she could have given Arnold a run for his money if she’d been cast as the female Terminator in T3.

Now they’re talking about Nicole Kidman as Catwoman? Eyuck. Mind you, I don’t put much stock into that article. Christopher Nolan has signed on to do ONE Batman movie, and not Year One, which is Darren Aranofsky’s, and not Batman Vs Superman, which was a) Wolfgang Petersen’s, and b) is dead dead dead. Petersen is making Troy and Supe’s next big-screen appearance will be in Brett Ratner’s film.

Seed Toss

I’m discussing a possible deal with some guys from the FDP about swapping guitar necks. One guy has a maple Nashville neck and another guy is looking for a rosewood Nashville neck. I would prefer a maple on mine. We may do a three-way deal with the maple neck coming to me, my rosewood neck going to the fellow over in Ireland (!), who would give cash to the guy with the maple neck. Sounds convoluted, but it could work. I need to actually take possession of the guitar first, though. I can wait. I can wait. And if the three-way deal doesn’t work out, I can still buy the maple neck directly and sell my neck on eBay or something.

And speaking of eBay… the last time I sold anything was… well a while ago. I thought that PayPal had instituted some sort of tiered system where if you wanted to collect money, ie SELL anything, you’d need to pay a member fee or something. I said nuts to that and put the idea of selling anything online out of my head. Well I’m looking at their conditions again, and not seeing anything that would prevent me from collecting money and transferring it into my bank account. I have no idea what I thought had happened… but if it turns out I can collect money from PayPal and only get charged a per-transaction fee when I collect the money, well hell. I’ve got loads of crap I can sell. Schweet.

I got to watch my first new episode of 24 tonight. I need a cigarette. Okay, it wasn’t all that – nothing really monumental happened but it moved things along. And all I can say about the Kimberly storyline is I am rooting for the cougar.

From the “um, okay” files – recipes from Superchunk’s Laura Ballance. This one is for roasted vegetables and sausage. Mmm, sausage. Again, thanks to link-o-meister and Hide-The-Sausage champion, Kyle.

Worst… episode… ever!

Starting tonight… four straight weeks of new episodes of 24! A little interview with one of the story editors to whet your appetite.

My question is – does this qualify as work safe? This link and the last one come from Kyle, everyone’s favorite Chesterfield and Keifer fetishist.

The Best Simpsons Episodes according to Entertainment Weekly. It’s like sitting down with the old family album.

Hang Onto Your Ego

Everyone in the office is sick. One consequence of this, besides the very real possibility that I am also incubating some sort of nasty germs, is that I am the only techie guy left in the office, and with us in the middle of switching a few of the computers in the office from Windows to Mac, that means I’ve had to put on a new hat of Mac computer guy. It’s a beanie, with a propeller. Wheee.

Another ebay triumph. East River Pipe’s The Gasoline Age will be en route to me shortly. The key to feeling like a winner is to bid on cheap stuff no one else wants.

I have been charged with being everyone’s ticket bitch again. This time, it’s a fistful of Delgados tickets. I must enjoy having people owe me money or something.

Pet Rock

So Phil Spector has been arrested in connection with a homicide in Los Angeles. Looks like he didn’t take too well to news of the Beatles releasing the de-Spectorized Let It Be this Fall.

There’s a lengthy Interpol interview over on Pitchfork.

And in a final bit of PF-related items, they’re ga-ga over Broken Social Scene’s You Forgot It In People. Big honking 9.2-rated review here. I’m thinking I should be paying more attention to local bands. Considering going to see their show on the 27th with The Dears and The Stills for CMW.
