What a thoroughly unremarkable weekend.
Went to the North American premier of Ken Loach’s Sweet Sixteen at the Toronto International Film Festival this afternoon. At the very chi-chi Elgin Theatre… in a nutshell, it’s about a 15-year old Scottish boy who gradually falls into a life of crime whilst trying to make a better life for himself and his mom, who is soon to be released from prison. Really quite enjoyed it – the Scottish accents were so thick as to require English subtitles! The acting was pretty excellent, considering the youth of most of the lead actors. The actor protraying the protagonist, Martin Compston, was in the audience for the screening – the standing ovation he got at the end was earned, not just polite.
Picked up the new Aimee Mann album today. Bit the bullet and bought it at Sam’s just to get the bonus EP which really only has two extra songs on it. Damn the completist in me. On the first couple listens it’s pretty standard Aimee Mann fare – I’ll have to give it more intensive listenings to fully appreciate I’m sure.
Good to hang out with Large again for a while, haven’t seen him since my birthday four months ago.
I keep getting my ass kicked at Warcraft III…

In the name of consolidation, I’m trying to integrate my blog into my homepage. Why have 2 sites when 1 will do? Seems to be working alright though the archives could be a little wonky. We’ll have to see how that works out.

Uh-oh… two days in a row without anything earth-shattering to report. Could my madcap adventures be coming to an end? Have my ratings fallen so low that I can’t even be bothered to jump the shark?
Summer hours are a thing of the past and that meant working (in theory) a full day Friday. The horror. I took off around 3:30 anyway – finished up what I intended to and hit Capsule and Songbird. Being around many guitars is truly theraputic. Also looked longingly at drum kits… bad! Bad! Too much disposable income. Bad.
Tried to rent Donnie Darko at Rogers – they had the case but the mooks couldn’t come up with the DVD. So I get a free credit to use at a store that has crap selection. Yippee. Wish there was another video store in the area. I could go to the Blockbuster in the Annex, but that lazy thing rears its ugly head again.
8:30 Friday night. Odds on me doing nothing interesting tonight?
Gonna hit the Film Festival tomorrow with Largie though. Gonna see something called ‘Sweet Sixteen’. British flick of some sort. Looking forward to it, I do so love slumming with the Hollywood types.

Very little of interest to report today. Worked. No band practice though I went down and played drums for a while anyway. My guitars have been sounding poo-ey lately, but I think it’s my ears since I’m not happy with the sounds of either my main or home rigs. Had sushi for dinner.
It’s already come to this – reporting what I had for dinner. Dear Lord.

I have been branded a ‘looser’ in pink highlighter.
En route to Cobalt tonight, the streetcar was boarded by a mob of drunken engineering frosh and frosh leaders. They took note of my iron ring and upon learning I graduated from Waterloo, expressed their disdain by scribbling ‘looser’ on my forearm in pink highlighter. Never mind the fact that it’s spelled wrong… they are engineers after all.
