Pitchfork has, in lieu of Monday’s news, posted their list of the Top 100 albums of the 80s, or more accurately, numbers 100-51.
I am batting a meagre 0.160 right now, with a few base on balls or hit by pitches as I have some of the material represented on compilations and whatnot (Mission Of Burma, Leonard Cohen, etc). I anticipate a better showing tomorrow, though.
77 – The Smiths / Strangeways, Here We Come
71 – The Replacements / Pleased To Meet Me
70 – Elvis Costello & The Attractions / Trust
69 – The Feelies / Crazy Rhythms
65 – The Soft Boys / Underwater Moonlight
62 – R.E.M. / Reckoning
58 – Elvis Costello & The Attractions / Imperial Bedroom
57 – Pixies / Come On Pilgrim
np – Neutral Milk Hotel / In The Aeroplane Over The Sea
My Morning Jacket
Because smartass Kyle asked, here’s a picture of my new coat. Want a better look? Come downtown. Bring my CDs while you’re at it.
Didn’t make it to the Annex this afternoon after all, ended up meeting a friend for coffee. Which is fine, the last thing I need to be doing right now is spending more money. Apparently I should be thinking about Christmas shopping. Huzzah.
The snow has finally let up. I don’t think we got the 20-25 cm predicted but it’s pretty wet out there. It’ll all be gone within a couple days, though – highs of 2 to 3 degrees with rain forecast starting Tuesday. Kinda makes you wonder what the point of it all is, realy.
I have my Top 10 for 2002 selected. I’ll post the results soon. I know everyone is on pins and needles waiting…

Listen, The Snow Is Falling
We’re getting pretty right dumped on. I estimate there’s maybe 6 or 7 cm on the ground now, and we’ll probably have double that before it’s over. El Nino my ass.
Downloading Luna concerts from the G500/Luna mailing list FTP server. Big files, slow transfer. Will take a while.
Went out for beer and wings at the Rose & Crown last night, nice and low key.
I’m going to head to the Annex today to sell off some CDs that a) I never listen to or b) have been made redundant by box set purchases. Or I was, but I’m thinking right now that maybe I should wait just a little bit until the Velvet Underground box set actually physically shows up before I unload my individual albums. Maybe I’ll just wait then, there could be more stuff in my collection I decide I don’t want. And anyway, never do today what you can put off till tomorrow. Good odds I’ll still wander up to the Annex anyway once the snow has let up a bit and the Santa Claus Parade has passed through.

Drunken Whistler
My goal for today was to go and buy a new coat to replace my almost-5 year old leather jacket. And since I’m at this moment realizing there’s no way to make this an interesting story, I’ll just say that I did indeed buy a new coat, a wool driving coat. Very nice, pretty much just what I was looking for.
Going up to the Rose & Crown tonight to meet up with Vic and Liz, Sudeep, Kevin perhaps. No real reason, just have a few drinks, celebrate Vic’s birthday a couple weeks ago. Whatever.
